Sorry guys, but I must inform you I have weakened and bought another make.A local importer near me had in stock (already landed here) a '69 AMC Javelin SST that is clean, straight, complete and an easy resto....and it still drives.Very good price, and no waiting for shipping,so I bought it.A Mav will have to wait a little longer.
I thank you all for the welcoming atmosphere and good information.I will be busy with Javelin stuff now so won't be on this site much.I ask the admin to close my account please,no need for me to take up space.
Guys,be gentle with me.I may have defected but I am still, above all else,a car enthusiast.Cheers.

Great find!! My son had a '73 AMX. Loved it. I'd buy one in a minute if one came along and I was looking.

And I do believe that an AMC 401 will bolt right in place of that 304 :chirp:

Good find! My brother had an AMX with a 390. It was fast! There's no need to become a stranger! We have " Other automotive tech and talk "! We still would like to see your car and talk about it! :thumbs2:

    yep.. and they're cheap too!

And as mentioned above.. the 390's are nice too. :)

I've ridden in a 68 before and that short wheelbase sure is fun.. although quite unpredictable at speeds. Also saw my best friends brother throw a 401 into a Gremlin and do reverse drops at 70mph on the highway when he was drunk one weekend. Back and forth.. back and forth.. forward to reverse.. reverse to forward until he popped a tire. Amazingly that trans lasted another good year of him beating on it. Sure wish I woulda had a camera with me since it still rates up there as one of the coolest things I ever saw as a kid. You could see sparks flying from the tires right before the tire let go.

My best buddy has been hoarding AMC stuff since 1975. Has a 69 AMX Pro Bracket drag car, 1972 anc 1973 AMXs (the 73 has been in magazines, resto'd by a mutual friend who is no longer with us). He also has two Cherokee SUVs. He has other toys, too ... Chrysler Crossfire and a ZO1 Vette.

He has a lot of stuff so if you are in need, contact me.

We have been talking about the need for him to start letting go of some of the piles in his shop.

401s have gotten a lot tougher to get.... a lot of hoarding. 360s are still out there. Vitually any AMC V8 should go right in where another previously was. Pretty sure that you might have to watch exhaust ports for differences at times.

In 70 or 71 they went from square ports to the dog leg ports, the dog leg ports ar much better.
