Is your car a column shift body?

This is the Factory hole for a C-4 shifter in my 73 dscf0183_original.jpg Its leading edge is 11" from the 1st rolled bead in the trany tunnel. it is 9" to the trailing edge. But you dont need that big of a hole or this. dscf0184_original.jpg
Look at the hole here this is where the shifter actually goes through the Tunnel dscf0185_original.jpg This hole is 6" long and 4" wide. That should be all you need. Notice the ring around the hole for mounting the shifter. I fab one to keep from bending the edges of the hole. Hope that helps. Ive always felt that the Factory placed the floor shifters too far forward. Id put the 6x4 hole in your tunnel where you feel comfortable.

yea its column shift so if i cut out a 6" long x 4" wide hole that should be good for my automatic shifter and does the shifter come in from the top or the bottom?

I have a aod in mine. I have a b&m shifter. No need to cut a hole. Drill a few holes. an better shifting.

Hes right, if you have a cable shifter all you need to do is to drill a hole for the cable. Summitt sells the B&M and the adaptor kit for AODs. I would consider an aftermarket manual valve body from precision automatic to avoid the 1 2 1 shuffle if your gonna go to the track.

Not in my opinion. So I called TCI about avoiding that 121 thing, They hooked me up with another company that makes a valve body thats manual shift, its called an AOD Hold from precision Automatic. You can manual shift 123 as long as your foot is to the floor, once you let up it goes into OD. If you place it in 3rd it shifts like a regular AOD. The 121 shuffle wears out the band.

you may have to plate the stock hole in the hump, then mount your new shifter to the plate. then just drill a hole for the cable...:thumbs2:
