I have almost given up on finding fenders here in Canada. if you look closer, they are those stick on exhaust pipe things. dumb looking but if the metal is good underneath..... I am waiting for more pictures to verify the condition of the body.
I have to agree, too, that the lower fenders are rusted through. Junk from the cowl can wash down there and pile up inside and give a problem. I had a thought when looking to repair my drivers door, and that may work on the outside skin of the fender, too... I was thinking I would be cut a patch panel from scrap fender, just in front of the door, and stitch it into the area ... my repair area on my door includes the factory crease, and the scrap would then be very close in contour. If you get lucky, the rust is mainly confined to the lower area. You might be able to grab a bit of the skin off of the back door to fix the fender. Forming a patch to that contour from sheet metal should also not be so bad as long as it doesn't include the heavier bends. You will probably have to fab some inner support too, because you are bound to have damage. Rust is usually at least twice as bad as you can already see visually ... typically more. Be sure to also look up from the front tire ... these fenders did not have full liners and the underside of the tops can rot too. My first Comet had that. All that being said ... There is probably still a bunch of other stuff off that car that you can fully use and/or sell to help fund what you are doing. If you have the room, get it, grab anything remotely useful, bag and label it, stash it away ... and make some money scrapping the shell eventually.
nope, $900 is his "already dropped the price by half, and it could be restored, and I put a ton of money into it, and it is a classic you know, and they are getting hard to find these days," price. no good for me.
I went thru the same thing. My fenders were rotted in front of the wheels from a hit. I looked and looked. It was finally better to just cut and patch.
