Didn't see what transmission you had originally (and don't know if it matters) but if it was a C4, I think the Mustang drive shaft will fit. As I said in post #9, I measured an AOD to be 3/4" longer than the C4 and a Mustang drive shaft to be 3/4" shorter than the one in my 2 door Maverick. If the Mustang drive shaft is too short try the Mav. According to others the Mav drive shaft should fit. You should have about an inch of smooth surface on the yoke behind the seal when the drive shaft is installed. If there's a rubber boot protecting the surface for the seal, I'd want it to ride close to the yoke on the smooth surface. Please post the results when you do the test fit.
If you have a AOD that's 1" longer then a C4 then it's either out of a ford van, mark7, marquis with air ride or a police car. If you have a T5 that is one inch longer, then it's out of a 94-95 mustang. Everything else I've seen is within fractions of an inch and works fine with the stock maverick drive shaft. I've done the same swap in a 1966 mustang and used the stock mustang shaft.
Looking around online I see refererences (Summit, SBFTech and one other) saying AOD is 1/4" to 1/2" longer than the C4. The AOD I was measuring was supposedly from an F150 but I can't say that for sure. I just measured it with a tape measure over top of the trans but got approx 3/4" longer. That made me happy because the Mustang drive shaft was approx 3/4" shorter than my Maverick drive shaft and it looked like the two would go well together.
I've ran this driveshaft behind a...347/LSX with a...C-4...AOD...700R4...T-5...8" rear... Detroit locker with Caltrax bars....275X60X15s ran it with the stock length, nothing cut...
