Hello everyone. My name is Bob and I live in southeast Michigan. I am fairly new to the world of classic cars, but I have a good idea of what I am looking for. My little boy's name is Maverick, so I figured the best present I could ever give to him on his 16th birthday would be a 1972 Maverick Grabber. I am looking for a farm fresh project car. I have 10 years to work on and enjoy this car before my son is old enough for it. I am not very knowledgable in the area of car repair and restoration, but you have to start somewhere. So if anyone has any advice or direction for me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -BigBob72
If you're going to work on it for 10 years, it will be a lot more fun if you have a good work space for it. A disassembled car takes up two stalls. When you find your car, buy a set of the Ford shop manuals for it. They're easy to read and very helpful. If you don't have a tool collection yet, you can pick up some bargains at yard sales and flea markets. I'd rather have good used tools than cheap new ones.
Bob, Welcome from Metro Detroit area. You're in the right place, good and smart people here. Let me know if I can ever help. Regards, Joe
Welcome to the board. If you really want him to be impressed with these cars take him to the MCCI Roundup in about 2 weeks in Deerborn. He'll, and you, will see some really nice Mavericks and meet some good people. Also this will be a place to make some contacts for parts in the future. Do a search for the MCCI Roundup on here. Good luck with your father/son project.
Welcome aboard. I see you are from Michigan. As Don stated....You are in luck. The Maverick Comet Club International, Inc. (MCCI) will be holding their 19th Annual Roundup Nationals in Dearborn, Michigan this July 24-29. You will see lots and lots of Mavericks and Comets there, SOME of which will be FOR SALE. We had a couple of real nice cars there last year for sale. Plus.....it is a great place to walk around and talk to people that know a lot about these cars. You will have to plan and attend. More details can be found at www.MaverickCometClub.org
Thanks everyone for the welcomes. Joe - good to see someone from a little down the road here. As far as the Roundup in Dearborn, I had noticed that earlier today and will definetly try to make it out on Thursday evening or Friday. That would be a great place to see some great cars and make some great connections. So thank you Don and Craig for the invites. I do plan to attend.
