Found mine on the side of the road! Not really like you would think though. My car had spent the prior 20 or so years in a barn. An old doctor had it, and when he died, it was rediscovered. Story is that he was living with a lady who had two daughters in College. He bought the car brand new in '72 and gave to them to drive. He gave the girls a curfew however, and one night they stayed out after curfew or did something he considered taboo. He then took the car away from them, put it in the barn- and forgot about it. When he died, a man who owns a small dirt-works business bought it. He had it about 2 weeks, when a tractor blew up and he needed cash. Had it outside by the highway, my dad drove by it, went back and told him to take the sign down- It was sold!! The dirt-works owner had put a battery, carb and fresh oil/filter. That's all it took after sitting there 20+ years!! I drove it like that for over 3 1/2 years!! (Went through fuel filters like crazy though) Now it has a V-8 and a fresh start!! I guess that's a summary of how mine came about. Preston
My 69.5 I found for sale locally in someones front yard, my 71 and 72 I found while on vacation about 60 miles from my house, picked them both up for 850.00 with a rebuilt 302 shortblock in the 72's trunk. The 71 has a Grabber hood and rear spoiler and the 72 had a rusty Grabber hood. I sold the 72 to fund the 69.5 and 71 upgrades. I also stripped the Hurst shifter and Cragars from the 72 before selling it.
Found mine on ebay. Had to look at several cars before I found what I wanted. Also Collector Car Trader Online is fun to look at. I just checked it and there are 40 Mavericks listed including some 1970's and some original Grabbers. Here is the link http://www.collectorcartraderonline.com/adsearch/collectorsearchprocess.html
I got mine from a guy I meet threw another guy. He bought the maverick just for the rear end for his hotrod. I got him an 8 inch from a junk yard and some cash and the car was mine. Then it sat while I gathered funds for the v8/tranny swap. It runs a year later now its time for floors and body work. Same guy told me about a 71 in better shape but he waited to long to tell me about it and it was already at the shreaders. Another guy told me about a third one but it was to rusted. I think it was $300 mold on the carpet so the cowl is bad, floors are probably bad (didnt look under it) rear bumper/valvence bend, rusted out hood, head liner gone, interior plastic bad. it was a 200 straight 6, a/c, ps car.
I got mine when I was 15 by cutting my neighbor's grass! He no longer had a license and told me if I cut the grass, the car would be mine. I only had the car for about 3 years, but kept cutting the grass for the next 10!
I found mine rotting away at the dragstrip. I was looking for a racecar a few years back but the guy wasn't really interested in getting rit of it. I started hanging out at the races a lot more, got to know the guy, and he cut me a deal on the car. In the time that it sat at the track, it turned green (was red) and has a bad dent in the roof due to a tree falling on it. It's fixable, just needs some time. Finally got that baby home, washed her up, cleaned her out, and starting to work on the car to get her race ready again... You can find them for decent prices, just gotta find someone that wants to get rit of it
i was looking at a piece of property my brother spotted it 1 block up the road in a driveway, stoped and asked if he wanted to sell, bought the maverick not the property.
just walking around the block and wow what is this car for sell so give a acount and next week it's mine and I never forget this day cause before I didn't what's love is
Found my '77 in used car lot, picked it up for $500. found another '73 Grabber in the nickel papers fifteen minutes from my home, it's still for sale as far as I know, $500. I offered $300 but he didn't bite. My friend traded a '54 F100 pick-up basket-case for a '70 with a boss 429 hood scoop on it tonight and if it's as nice as he says ( cleanest, least rusty Mav he's ever seen) I'll trade him out of it tomorrow. I went to offer him my '84 Capri that he's wanted for some time and he told me of this Maverick he was getting on this trade and thought of me instantly 'cause of my desire for Mavs'. he say it's just meant to be since I went to offer him my car he wanted on the very day he had something I might want.
My wife's great-grandmother bought hers new in 1973, she passed away two years ago. It sat in the barn for a year while the heirs tried to sell it. I finally bought it and started working on it about a year ago. If interested, check out the history and progress so far. www.geocities.com/scottcodon@sbcglobal.net
