I have seen some post that their maverick is a 1969 1/2, my door tag shows mine as manufactured Dec 1969, I bought it from my best friends dad in 1987 and he bought it brand new, he gave me the window sticker and it shows it as a 1969 but since day one the title says it's a 1970. and yes the vin on the car matches the title. anyone know why dmv would make the car a 1970? the car was purchased in Hillsboro Oregon Feb 5th 1970 and I bought it May 1987 and got a new title and it still showed 1970 then when I moved to Washington state and got a title they listed it as a 1969/1970 on the title.

Yeah it causes some confusion to a lot of people especially when you look at their car and tell them it is a 69 1/2 they tend to argue with you because the title says 70, 64 1/2 Mustang is titled the same way as a 65, its interesting that Washington titled it 69/70.

I just rememdered they said they put it as a 1969/1970 because the vin does not have the standard amount of numbers, the guy said in other words the vin is to short. and my 2000 Ford F-150 has a manufacturers date on the door tag as 1999 but it's titled as a 2000 so I think Washington dmv is just confused when it comes to old cars.

I see you run in the 11's, I am trying for that myself and I am close at 12.22 which isn't bad as my 302 is only 30 over and the lower end is stock crank, rods, pistons, their just all new and i run aluminum cylinder heads with a 292 cam, I did have the pistons valve relief enlarged as I am running 2.02 intake valves.

The car is titled as a 70 because it is a 70' model year car. It was built in 1969 as a 70 model...Not uncommon with early mavs...The slight differences such as ignition key on the dash and 13" rims (on some) and the use of a modified falcon floor pan, along with other differences make it a 69& 1/2 model...But its a 1970 as far as the DMV regs are concerned. Mid year changes made the mav " normal?" I guess you could say like the later ones...

Ford got a jump on the initial introduction of the 1970 Maverick by getting it out to the public in, I believe April of 1969 . The car was always titled a 1970 model but those early versions had the ignition under the dash, a different horn or steering wheel and some differences in suspension. By September 1969, the entire new 1970 Ford line was in the dealerships including the still new 1970 Ford Maverick. Now the ignition was in the column and some of those earlier differences went away for good. The early models were simply referred to as a 69.5

My 1970 is one of those early model 69.5 cars with the key under the dash and 13 inch rims etc. The weird part about my car is it was built in late October 1969 according to the Marti and Ford 999 reports. By that time, I would think, it should have had the key in the column

Ford never refered to the early Mavericks as a "1969 1/2". That is something that just developed in the hobby to refer to the early Mavericks. They were manufactured, titled, marketed, and sold as 1970 models.

The model year always starts the prior year. The 2013 Mustang has been on the lots since at least May

The Maverick was introduced on April 17, 1969. Sounds like you do have an early car, what are the last 6 digits in your VIN?

yep mine has the key in the steering column so it's a 1970 all the way. one thing odd about my 1970 is when i removed the 250 6cyl and installed a 302 i ordered a throttle cable for a 1971 mav that came with a 302 as my 70 does not show a 302 in the parts books, the 1971 cable was 1 inch to long and i tried more then one maverick V-8 throttle cable and they were all to long, so i ended up using the NAPA parts/picture book and found a perfect match throttle cable for mine is a 1978 Ford LTD II with a V-8
