that being said, I found replacement idler side bushing for that center link, is there a place to get the ball joint? (looks like its pressed in) or a reasonable place that will exchange the whole thing?
If you have a competent front end shop, they can change it out. If I remember correctly, you have to change the pitman arm and idler arm to put in the manual center link. I think I paid $150 to have it changed and front end aligned.
I can change it out myself.... that is not an issue...work on cars for a living.... I was just wondering if there are a replacement ball joint for the center link now.... as it is not exactly new...
its a 71.. off my parts car... I have the gearbox/pitman arm and idler from that car as well... was gonna swap everything...
I think the ball joint you are describing is actually part of the pitman arm on a 1971....not the center link.
Now that I think about it...I think you are right. I get confused. Here is why: I have BOTH kinds sitting in my garage. I do have them marked what year they came off of. Here is where I can help. I have BRAND NEW manual center links for a 1971. Email me DIRECTLY (see below) if I can help.
You might want to keep the power steering gearbox and just change the pitman arm, as the ps box has a quicker ratio, I had both, but left the ps box in.
I kept the power steering box in my 75 when I switched to manual. I didn't know there was a difference back then but I loved how mine steered.
