Hey guys I am moving to Gainesville Florida the end of this month. I have never been there other than to drive thru on 75. Are there any members who live there and can give me some info about the city? Thanks Cary

I live in Orlando now but I grew up about 70 miles southwest of there (near Ocala). It's a pretty nice area. I just graduated from UCF last year so most of the time I've spent there was at UF with friends. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll see if I can be of any help.....

If you don't mind my asking, what's bringing you to Gainesville ?

My company is opening a distribution center in Gainesville. I had been waiting for a position to open in our Orlando distribution center but when I heard about the opening in Gainesville I jumped at it. Are there any good salvage yards for old Fords in the area? I sold my truck to have money for the move so I will be driving the Maverick every day for a while. Cary

I had another question. Does Florida have safety inspections for cars?
I am wondering if my 73 will have problems being inspected. It has headers, aftermarket air cleaner, no smog pump or charcoal canister. Not sure what else it would have come with. Oklahoma did away with inspections a couple of years ago and old cars didn't have to pass a smog test anyway. Cary

Hmmm...I'm not real sure about Salvage Yards up there. I can check around a little and get back to you. Things to check out up there are the Gatornationals and Don Garlits Museum down in Ocala.

I'll get back to you on the salvage yards as soon as I find out some info.

Two events of note, in the Central Fla area: First Turkey Rod Run in Daytona over the Thanksgiving weekend. It is really huge.

In Jan. National Parts Depot is sponsoring an All Ford event at Silver Springs, about 40 miles from G'Ville. The first 1000 registrants get in for FREE!. Lotta nice stuff, in a beautiful setting. Check out their website, or call 'em for free registration. National Parts Depot

Gainesville is a great town. A lotta good entertainment comes there, from time to time, and it is close to hunting, fishing, and beaches.

Thanks guys for the info I will miss that rod run becouse I am not leaving for Gainesville until that Saturday, but the thing in January sounds cool. It is kind of weird talking about doing car stuff in January but I am looking foward to having nice enough weather even in winter. Cary
