So I went out to see what it would do last night. I was pleasantly surprised by my first run. I ran a 8:59. My quickest ever run. My 60' time is still high with a 1:98 so there is lots left in it. Maybe 8:0 in current off the street form. Lower with some shock tuning, slicks and skinny's. I've got a video and photo that look pretty good. From what I can tell, the car launches flat maybe a slight squat.

So I pull back up to make another pass and this time the guy staging the cars tells me I need a helmet and I have to lose my passenger. Apparently anything faster than a 8:60 has to have a helmet and no passengers. So I promise to go slower since I left the helmet behind but I still give up the passenger. I make my run and let off of it before the finish crossing the line at 8:72. I think "I got this now". I go again but this time I blow the tires out failing to get traction. Its that way for the rest of the night. Im not sure what I was doing differently but it sure wasnt working. Perhaps I was getting caught up in the "racing" aspect instead of just trying to be consistent and improving my launch.

I left with a little bit of a grudge though. Throughout the night I kept seeing other cars consistently running in the mid-low 8's with no helmet and a passenger. I questioned the starting guy and was told "hey, Im just passing along the info". The only thing I can assume is these other cars were late models with airbags and other safety features. Thoughts?

Oh and it took them all night to stop calling it a Mustang. Somebody finally went up to the booth and told him it was a Maverick.

That's why....If the track didn't have a good prep, it will go away very fast. That's why it was good at first, then you spun. Also having a passenger will kill a couple of tenths. I work part-time at Texas Raceway (Kennedale) so I know a little about traction! There's been a black Maverick (stroked 460) out lately, and it's fast, how fast? I can't tell, the boss will get mad! Let me know if you ever decide to come visit.

Cool. My son (6yo) and I were down there watching the pro-mods a few fridays ago. Though we only got to watch the first round, it was fun. Just too much stalling getting the show moving for a 6yo. But the atmosphere at Kennedale is a blast. the crowd really makes it fun.

    Fun eh???

I dunno about your Mav but in my experience you can add just about exactly three sec to a 5.50-5.60 time at the 330ft to get your 1/8mi time... Of course there are lots of variables, but if your are making around 80mph through the traps it will be close...

The passenger no doubt cost you some time...

Even with the 1.98 60' time I would guess that the 8.59 second 1/8 mile time would equate to a mid to high 13 second 1/4, now with that said every car is different and it's really hard to take one cars 60', 330' or 660' time and predict much. Just looking at Krazy Comets numbers.............they could be close to correct.
    My Maverick has done a 1.89 at the 330' and a 6.167 at the 660' on a 1.410 60'. The car next to me had a 5.353 330' time and a 8.386 at the 660' on a 1.849 60'..........................and the slower car had a 13.295 in the 1/4.

That works for me. I ran a 5.56 330ft so 3.03 to my 1/8th 8.59. So now I could race to the 330 and ease up to the finish thus not getting the track on my case. Just add 3.00 to my time to see where I land.

    (y) If it runs below 5.50 add 2.99 and likely knock another .01 off for each .01 less to the 330...

I ran a '88 5.0 T-Bird for 10 years that was in the 8.4-8.6 range(had slowed around .15 as it totaled close to 700 runs under its belt), so you tend to notice these things... Best on a 1.90 short time was a 8.42@82.99 with the 1/4 in 13.11@105.3... Was just luck I'm familiar with the times you ran, don't have a clue what the 660 would be if had your car turned in a 5.10 at the 330... Currently the Birdie has a blown head gasket and is waiting on a fresh 331, still I can't help think but how much quicker the Comet would be with that engine vs the fatty T-Bird...
