I pulled the 302 and the c4 out of the maverick I ended up scrapping. It never would run while it was in the car and I found out that the fuel eccentric on the cam was just spinning and not driving the fuel pump properly. Seeing this I was suspicious of the whole engine. Who ever put it together (I suspect this was a rebuild from a mass re builder.) the mains and rod were not torqued down right. Afer pulling the pistons out I discover ed that the rings were gapped at .035. I admit I have little experience with a mass re builder style engines. Is this common in cheap rebuilds?

    Rebuild

Sounds like someone with no or little experience gave it a go at a rebuild.

The rings that were in the bores are not fit to file. I am going to see if I can buy a .060 over file to fit and new set of bearings. But before I do its going to need a rehone.

The 302w that was in my car was a bit of suprise as well.

Was told it was .020 over & had a roller cam.

Turned out to have a .060 over bore with .040 over pistons. No roller cam.
Added to that, the crank is the bad one that likes to break at the 1/5 journal.

    Scrapped the whole block.

Hope the B2 I had built will be a better engine !
