Just got a letter from hagerty saying they can't renew my policy on my Comet due to my 19 year old son and my wife. My son recieved a speeding ticket 01/11 while my wife was in a fender bender that same month. They say the underwriters law in Mississippi prevents them from being able to renew it. I haven't had a ticket in the last 25 years. Their 2 incidents were in my wifes 2003 camry.

Need some other recommendations that members have been happy with.

Did you try not covering your son? Since he's 19 you should be able to exempt him from the Insurance pretty easily. Whether he lives with you or not. I've never covered any of my older kids on my insurance, and never had them say I had to.

They said because he still lived with us they could not excempt him. That when he moved out they could review everything and then possibly start a new policy with them.

So, his son should join the military because he got a speeding ticket? Or it's a good way to get rid of your kids? :hmmm:

Looking for other recommendations for classic car insurance. To me him getting a speeding ticket isn't the real problem here. Yes he is a teenager that made a mistake. He's a full time college student working part time at advance auto. Seriously how many policy holders do you thing Hagerty has that a spouse or child recieved a traffic violation. Then hold that against the policy holder. Neither him or my wife are listed as operators on my comet.

Call them and talk it out. Worse thing they could say is 'no'.

Might want to check with J.C. Taylor, 1-888-268-4783, and see what they say...and to see if it is a Mississippi state law.

I found out the quick way, after being with Nationwide for 34 years that, "my insurance company" quickly becomes no longer "my insurance company" once it becomes you vs them :(

Dumped them like a rock :)

Sounds like a Mississippi problem....not a car insurance problem.

It was just a idea. I fully support anyone joining the military and encourage it.

I've got Heacock Classic, but have no idea what their policy on this matter would be...
