Hey I have a 8 inch with a mini spool in my 71 mav I know a 9 inch is the way to go but what I really want to know is I have been told that you can use a full spool from a 9 inch with some minor machineing is this something anyone has seen or done?

Just stick with the mini spool, no need to use a full one in an 8" rear.

you can machine the 9" spool to fit a 8". you have to machine the passenger side down to the width of the 8" carrier. i dont see any advantage to doing this that is worth the expense. you will have a weight savings but not a significant amount. unless you are or know a good machinist that will do this for you for minimum cost then you will be spending allot of money that wont result in any measurable gains.
