Chrome trim along the side of the car? Option or standard?

When I got my car it had a strip of chrome trim that ran along the side of the car, and some more over the wheel arches.

Never liked it, and took it off and threw it away.

Now that I am looking at photos of all of our cars, I don't see many (any?) with that chrome trim.

Was that an dealer option, or did all the cars come with it and we just have all taken it off at some point?

two of the 3 mavericks and comet ive had had the wheel arch trim. the 72 grabber didnt have it but it very well could have been removed by a previous owner. i had a 73 maverick that had it and my 71 comet has it.

I have seen several with the arch trim, but none with the straight pieces between the tires.

i had a pinto that had that on it. its to keep from other peoples doors from dinging yours in a parking lot. im pretty sure its added on after the factory because its stick on. all the factory trim usually attaches with some sort of clip. i dont know if the dealerships put it on or it was a package option for when the cars were ordered or something else.

I have the same trim on my Grabber. I have seen it on a lot of Mavs, so I just figured it came standard and people take it off 'cause it's ugly. I will also be removing mine when it comes time for body work and paint.

my 72-2-door sedan was a standard 2-door sedan.the same year you could buy -off the lot - a 72-2-door with the -accent group-and it would have the trim that you are talking about.

I seen factory fenders with holes in them just for that trim without the trim on them. So I would presume factory but option.

The wheel lip moldings are factory. The other molding is not.

"Wheel Lip Moldings" were an option, but standard with some packages, and not available on Grabbers (from the factory) All cars had the holes in the wheel openings for them.

Mine has the center strip on the body line, but it runs from the rear, over the wheel well, across the door, back over the front wheel well, ending at the front fender. It is factory, has clips on rear quarters and front fenders with holes in the body. The doors have tits like the windsheild and back glass moldings.

I think the moldings give the car a look the new cars can't get..

I made a mistake earlier. This is the same trim I have, the one that goes over the wheel well not around the wheel opening. Oops!

When i bought my maverick last year the trim was the first thing i noticed and the first thing i hatted, but now it has grown on me. I don,t know if its the fact that not many have it or what. Its Staying now. Plus when it gets the new paint job this spring it will help with door dents from dumb asses.
