i was wanting to put in a center console in my 72 comet but i dont no what will fit is there one out that there that is an exact match or do you need to make a custom one and if you do have a console please post pics of your setup thanks
There is a member on here that has used a Granada/Monarch center console. It seems to fit well and looks "correct" for our cars. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=91712
I put one of those in the 77 I used to have. Fits nice and looks factory. It did prevent the glove box door from opening all the way but it was worth it.
If you're interested in one of the Granada consoles like the one pictured I have one I was considering selling. PM me if interested.
Many guys have the Granada / Versailles console. Here are some more pictures in this restoration thread: http://www.maverick.to/mmb/showthread.php?t=14007&highlight=console+101
this is the console i used out of an 89 Mercury Sable. I had to cut the bottom to match the trans tunnel but it looks really good.
Is that a speaker I see on the side of the console? That was a good idea. I may have to do that when I install my console. Mine is also the same color blue as the other two. It came out of a light blue 1977 Lincoln Versailles.
This is a Versailles console that I grabbed a long time ago (mid-1990s). It sat on a shelf for years. These were covered in leather, and this one was originally a light tan color. Many of the Granada/Monarch ones are a pebbled plastic. This area originally was an open pocket with 4 idiot lights across the top. This mini-gauge set slid in there perfectly, just by turning the bracket upside down and fabbing that lower bar out of aluminum to lock it into place. This was an auto console (column shift) and that tray snaps out. I had to mod it for my shifter, which is out of a Pinto. These are a bit narrower than the Mustang/Mav shifter. A good friend recovered the armrest pad. The original had several cigarette burns in the leather. It had to be like trying to stitch up a wallet, a real test of patience.
