hi huys, i need some help i have a 1977 302 i'm putting in a 1975 four door maverick that has the original I-6 tranny c-4 3 speed that i'm gonna bolt to and i need to know the diameter of the fly wheel. i don't remember what size tranny i jerked out of there, its been a year since i took it out and it didn't say on the top of it as i remember. thanks ahead of time
Most likely a 157 tooth flexplate/flywheel. The imbalance factor depends on what year 302 you're using.
Let me re-phrase that. If it wasn't a 250 then the trans will not bolt up to the 302 wuthout modifications. If it was a 250 the whole thing including flywheel and torque converter will bolt right up to the 302.
That depends on the imbalance factor of the 250 flexplate. I know the 300's used a neutral balance flexplate, not sure about the 250's. A 77 302 needs a 28 oz/in flexplate.
i'm not using the 250 flywheel.i looked up the engine code using a thread in here and it was a 250. i bought a 157 tooth new flywheel for it.hopefully thats the one i need.
If you bought a flywheel, then you're in for a big surprise as a flywheel is used with a manual transmission only. You need a flexplate for an automatic transmission.
According to fordsix.com, the 250 and 302 have different imbalance. http://www.fordsix.com/250swap.php IIRC, the 250 has a zero imbalance.
