what about the master cylinder? would the master cylinder from a front drum car work with the disc conversion or would you have to switch to a maverick master cylinder that came from the factory with disc front and drum rear?
It will not work. There are residual preessure valves.in the drum drum mc. That will cause ur discs to drag! Go to parts store and get a new on for a 75 granada don't go used on this critical piece. You will need to eliminate the drum drum metering block and get a disc drum proportioning block and reconfigure your steel liines. Ford made these different so people would have to do this swap the safe way.
I have the proportioning block. will a master cylinder from a 74 maverick with manual disc fronts work? (my car has manual brakes) thanks for your help.
I've been driving my car for 5 years with a drum/drum metering block with no issues at all, I even drove a year with the drum/drum master cylinder.
I'm running disc/drum with the drum/drum distribution block, and while it certainly works, it's more likely to lock the rears up during a "panic stop" (it's happened to me once). I intend to eventually add an adjustable proportioning valve, and you should too.
same here... I am now running ...no prop. valve...no distribution block...no residual valves......w/4 wheel disc brakes... had to do two panic stops with no problems... ......
You cut tempered spring steel with a hack saw? I'm still running the original 6-cylinder springs in mine, going to the disc spindle didn't change my height. Guess everyone's combinations are different.
4-wheel disc has different requirements. -Disc brakes don't use residual pressure valves unless the master cylinder is mounted lower than the calipers (such as street rods), and even then, it's only 2-pound. Drum brakes require 10-pound RPVs. -Drum brakes require less pressure to actuate, which is why on a disc/drum set-up, the drums will want to lock first. This is compounded by the fact that the car is lighter in the back, and the forward momentum further reduces the traction of the rear tires during braking. - I don't know how you're running without a distribution block, but something has to split the left and right front brake lines from the front M/C reservoir, and I am assuming your pressure warning light switch must be attached to the M/C, or that you're not running one at all. Ultimately, you have tested your particular system, and it is working well and not having a problem with rear-wheel lock up, so if it ain't broke, no reason to change it.
is anyone aware if the granada front disc conversion alters the width on the front where the rim mounts on the rotor? or has an impact backspacing or changes dynamics in the wheel well at all?
Me too. Still have the drum drum block. Had the drum master for a season too. No issues after 4 years. The disc spindles didnt change my ride height at all. Never heard that one before.
