So many you too's in my post. I'll assume you mean all of them. Also I see a lot of us bought our cars because they were cheap!
Back in 2004, I purchased a '72 Mustang Sprint Sport Roof like the one I purchased new back in the Spring of '72. I thought it would be neat if I also had a Sprint Maverick and Sprint Pinto. In 2007, I found a Sprint Maverick on Ebay in Ga. I drove up and picked it up. A little later, I saw a '72 Comet GT for sale on this forum. I drove to the Atlanta area to pick it up. He also had a '71 Grabber, bought it, too. In 2009, I found the elusive Sprint Pinto in Mich. Sold the Grabber to a friend who is a member here and had the Pinto shipped to me. Took a couple of years off from the cars to work on some other projects. I hope to get back to the red Comet GT later this year after I finish some things on the '69 XR7 conv. Jim
My uncle bought one new in 70. Our next door neighbor had one when I was a teenager. I found mine for cheap ($625 in 1983) and bought it. Ended up owning 17. Most were parts cars that are long gone. I curently have 7.
My E-250 Van was in the shop forever on a barter trade for work deal and I didnt want to rent a car for another two weeks and I saw a brown car up in the boat parking lot with a for sale sign for 600 bucks.. i really didnt know what it was I didnt recognise the 4 door version...it said "Mercury" on the back... still not sure....said Comet on the side.. still didnt get it ... I knew the Mavericks my neighbor had a two door I didnt really dig. But Im a Mopar fan so it took awhile. I chewed the guy down to 3 fitty cause the engine was 6 cyl and runnin on 4 -3/4 cylinders.. I figured I'd sell it after my van got fixed but... I fell in love with my72 Brownie Quad Door and have spent thousands... and am still not done..(man who finishes car dies...lol kidding) Btw the enthusiasm here is amazing... The Dodge Coronet forum is soooo boring. I have a Quadra -Bee too.
I owned a 72 Comet GT yrs ago I Loved that car and Mavericks cheaper to buy than a Mustang or a 65-to 68 Falcon in good condition.
Mid life crisis My first car was a 74 baby blue maverick. I spent my high school years building it into a 14 sec street car. (my first wife made me get rid of it). Now my wife of 25 years thought it would be a fun project for me and my youngest son to do together and of course she is wright. we have had a blast rebuilding it.
my 66 mustang was still on jackstands at home, and I needed to find an alternate form of transportation. one day while working with my dad at his impound yard, an ugly little 72 comet with a 250 inline 6 and a 3 speed on the floor came up for sale. I parted with 400 bucks and never looked back. I actually ended up finishing and selling the mustang just to keep the little merc. lots of cars have come and gone since, but ill never part with my comet...
I was in high school looking for a cheap car and had never heard of a Maverick before. My dad came home one day and said he saw an ad for a 1970 "Dodge Maverick" in the paper. We went and looked at it, it had obviously been sitting for a while in the tall grass of his back yard but ran in spite of the massive rear main leak. Paid $500 for it, drove it home, put in a new seal & main bearings and drove it all through high school and my first five years in the Air Force.
I was lookin to return to the car hobby after many yrs hitias. I was not lookin specifically to buy a Mav/Comet; I just happen to be in the right place at the right time. "Iola Wis. 4 day corral/show/swap - July 2009". I had no specfic vechicle in mind, just one within my budget that was running w/ a min. amt's of rust/body damage. Long story short, it just happen to be a Merc Comet.
