Hi guys love the site! I'm about to lay it on you thick lol. We have a local former Dodge Dealer that is a total mind blower over 22 years as a teen I went and looked at a 77 maverick that was traded in in 78 with 6,000 actual miles. The owner wanted so much for it I couldnt afford it. Well he got ill and I purchased it for 600. I was alittle let down to find out the carb had been removed and after they towed it to my house I learned fast the engine has stuck. The car still has (some paint) the rest is surface rust. It has a 6 Cylinder not sure which one. I was wondering if you guys had any tips to free the engine? And if anyone has a carb they want to sell? This car has been on my mind for 20+ years and I WILL restore it! Is there a way to determine which 6 cylinder I have? Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Daniel.

You can try to put some Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinders and let it sit for a day or so then try to turn it over with the crank bolt. As far as the size of your I6, look at the water pump. If it has 3 bolts it is a 200, if it has 4 bolts it is a 250.
    Hope this helps.

:Welcome: from Atlantic Canada! If the engine is original, the VIN number will have a "T" for a 200, or an "L" for a 250 in the 5th digit.

Take out all the spark plugs and get some penetrating/lube down the holes, like Fordmaster suggested. Good luck with your project:Handshake

:hmmm:...penetrating oil...may not be the answer.

    Welcome from the northwest:Welcome:
either the 3 or 4 bolt method or the 5th digit in the vin are good ways to tell. i had a seized motor also, had rust in the 3rd and 4th hole, even if you do manage to break it loose it may still be no good it is probably seized with rust and if so may need a rebuild any way. sorry but i look for the worst and enjoy when i am wrong that is why people like me so:mad:

it just so happaens that i kept the carb off the 250 that was shot in mine and i would be happy to give it to you if you cover the the cost of shipping. :thumbs2: the engine was shot not the carb .the guy blew three holes in the block! but i take it the carb worked well for him to do that to it. lol i put a 302 in it and i can't ever see putting a six in one so its yours if you want it. give me your number and address and i'll send it out and you can send me the shipping charge back to me when you get it.
