Hey guys. I'm going to look at 72 Comet 6cyl on Saturday and I'm having a hard time getting a pic of the door tag. I have the VIN. based on what pics I've soon, I suspect it's a GT and the guy doesn't know it. It's hard to tell from the pics because they're less than stellar! :rofl2:I have noticed the following.....

    1. Deluxe Door panels.
    2. The mirrors are missing but it looks as though there are two hole on each side, implying sport mirrors.

Here is the link to the car. http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/bar/3660365542.html

Is there any way to tell if it's GT by the VIN? Thanks!

I see that it doesn't have the GT hood with the scoop. Did the GT's carry chrome emblems? Maybe left over emblem holes are still there

Didn't they also have black grilles and headlight bezels? And the grille had 3 horizontal 'chrome' bars?? The hood would have also had bolt holes for the scoop. You should be able to determine this by looking at the underside of the hood (not to say a hood couldn't be changed).

Those CL pictures are pretty bad. What is the original colour? Weren't GT's only available in certain colours?
If it IS a GT, I'd be very shocked. [IMG]

At least they were taken during daylight hours. I love the night time pictures on ads/auctions.

That is not a GT. It is a regular Comet 2dr. 71 and 72's Did not have crome rocker panel mouldings, no crome drip rail mouldings. Bucket seats, Black grill with stainless mouldings on the grill bars. Black head light bezels. Hood scoops. Deluxe door panels and blacked out tail panels. The vin number will not tell if it is a GT.
