I own (2) Comets right now out of the (5) Mavericks/Comets I own, so I suppose there must be some interest on my part.

It's called a JOKE. Hence, the smiley face on the end. If JOKES hurt a club or group.....Lord help us all.

And it's not MY MCCI, it belongs to all the members of the club.

And if we are being 100% accurate, Mavericks out sold Comets by a large margin, so there was a lack of interest in Comets. Not by me, because I was not old enough to buy a brand new Comet back then. :D

Large generalization there, Ford was the main brand, Mercury was the sub brand of semi-luxury oriented versions of Ford Cars. Therefore the distribution ratio of Mavericks to Comets should HEAVILY favor Mavericks (which it does since Comets are only like 10-15% of the production run).

One thing I know is Comet parts sure don't sell like Maverick parts. I have no problems moving Maverick parts, Comets not so much.

I don't know what the rarest is, but I was surprised to see the Comet I recently bought had the security conv. package option. A locking gas cap and a spare tire lock. To bad the gas cap is broke though.

My Maverick is plain jane but I'm proud of the consolette I have for it.

Not a large generalization, or even a generalization for that matter, it is a fact. More Mavericks were sold than Comets. The general car buying public, of which I was not part of because I was not old enough to buy a car (so one can't blame me), choose the Maverick over a Comet. Fact. Now the reasons that happened can be argued via marketing, number of dealerships, number of units built, etc.

I own more Comets than most of the people on this message board, so I don't feel I have to justify my love of the the Mercury Comet.

Let's get back on topic: Rarest part found on a Maverick or Comet.

    Since we're throwing numbers around...

Total Maverick+Comet production was 2,554,662 units.

Of them, 2,067,450 were Mavericks and only 487,212 units were Comets.

So Comets only accounted for 19.1% of the total production.:tiphat:

More popular than was thought I suppose.

Comets make up 20% of my "fleet", so I guess I am am in agreement with Ford and the general public. Even a smigen better I suppose!! :D

Maybe you could call the paint code a rarity. Didn't I read that the purple color is very rare?

Absence of a paint code for that color on the data sticker. Special order color...so yes I would qualify that as rare. Even rarer on a Comet I suppose. :D

Demand side of supply and demand. If the overall supply starts low the demand will never saturate the supply. Thus those of us who prefer Comets over Mavericks will always feel like we have a greater demand than supply. Economics gets more fun when you start looking past the 3rd and 4th layer.

And I'm not saying that you don't like Comets Craig. I'm just saying there was never anopportunity for the Comet to oversell the Maverick because of artificial supply controls.

This is one of the first sets I've seen mounted on a Maverick outside factory literature, but I have quite a few of these NOS.

Agree. No way. Not even as an dealer accessory that I'm aware of. Maybe from JC Whitney like the wind wing glasses and glove boxes for the 70-72 models...
