    Hello!

Im trying to put back together my engine and im having some trouble. the cylinder heads i put on the engine are from an 85 mustang. The engne is the 302 that came with the car. The little ports for the bilt that slides through the alternator and screws into the cylinder head appears to be different on the 85 heads, any suggestions on what i can do? where i can find a part that i may neeed?

    Thanks

I've seen some later heads where that hole is too big for the bolt and an adapter bushing was used. And on some heads that "port" is exacly that, a place for the air pump to connect to. If it isn't closed up you get a big exhaust leak.

That is what I had to do on my aftermarket heads.

Later ford engines use that hole for the smog pump. When the hole isn't needed for the smog pump a part called a Blind Hole Insert is installed there to plug the hole. But the insert has an inside thread that will take a 7/16" bolt. That's the size of bolt that fits that insert. The stock long alt bolt may be a 3'8" . Either use the larger bolt or fab an adapter bushing to adapt the bolt to that insert.
