I have An early 4 lug 8 inch rear and I was wondering if the spline count is the same as the later 5 lug 8 inch axles. I was thinking about switching the third member from the 4 lug rear to the 5 lug. Basically I want to know if they are compatible.
Correct ........ The problem with an easy swap is the bearing size ..... this thread will help explain. http://www.maverick.to/mmb/showthread.php?t=20444
hmmm?.. the few that I've swapped on early Mustangs must be different then? Well.. luckily you guys chimed in to fill in the blanks and steer him in the right direction here then. Learn something new everyday. EDIT: on the rethink.. makes perfect sense and I must have used the same axles and just swapped the pumpkins out, I guess.
what you you guys think about these units from ebay? http://www.ebay.com/itm/310204443787?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/121046647541?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Either one would be a good choice at that price but...You will have to step up to 31 spline axles (Not a bad thing) If you plan to put ALOT of torque through them.
Ya i have to get new 31 spline axles. I been wanting to do this for along time just haven't wanted to put out that kinda money but I'm thinking about doing it in a month or so.
