Hi I'm thinking of selling or trading my 1972 4dr ford maverick because I don't have the time or money to fix it up so I'm on here looking for some advice I already talked to my mom about it she hates the car so I'm turning to my fellow maverick/comet owners for advice
It's a common question, but if you don't have the time to work on it, or the money, or the space, or the skill, then an old car isn't for you. They are not great daily drivers, let alone safe enough to drive in heavy traffic areas. If you can sell it for what you've got into it, then do it. But being a 4 door, it's usually a tough sell, and most people overpay when they buy them.
I`d say keep it. But sometimes you have to do what you have to do. You could allways buy another one later in life.
It lags when I gas it , it has a hole in the exhaust manifold , cuts off some times , has cancer spots on some if of the doors , it pulls to the left very bad
To be honest, it sounds like a money pit. Unless you have a bunch of time, talent, and money, it is probably time to let it go. Too bad that transportation costs are so high, this one would be a better starting point for you. Cost is low, body looks free from ferrous oxide. Bucket seat 4 door. $1200. A car like this, is something that you could justify investing a bit of your money.
Depending on your market there.. I doubt you'll get much for that 4 door. Maybe $1,200 - 1,500 at the most. And that's only if you fix the manifold(as cheaply as possible and keep in mind that a good welder can fix it).. add hubcaps.. and detail it before sale. If you're not in love with it.. and have to pay someone to do all the work on that car to ready it for sale?.. it will eat away at any profit potential there is.. and I'd dump it for around the $700-900 that it's worth. Then again.. some folks really love these cars and take them any way they can find them.. even with 4 doors.. so you could get slightly more from the right buyer. In reality.. something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.. otherwise everything would be considered priceless. lol
i really like the car, labor is no problem its just i dont have the money because im a student at Lincoln tech and when im not at school im working at game stop making $7.25 a hour so money is the major problem, i got two original hubcaps
Old car that needs lots of work + lack of money = ______________________________________ Miserable owning experience & Lots of walking or bumming rides from friends I think in YOUR circumstance, selling is your best option.
new car = higher insurance, costly repairs when you need to. higher inital cost (purchase price) old car = cheaper insurance, cheapier repairs due to cheap prices for parts, low inital cost of purchase. buying an older car is better for the environment and saving a nice car from destruction.
