I've been through a lot with this car. I have a lot of memories in this car, as well. I've been beyond happy with her, and I've been so mad at it that I wanted to burn it down. I've put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears in this car. I've laughed and smiled in it and I've cried in it. I know this car front to back, inside and out. I'll always have a soft spot for Mavericks, and after all of this it's time for us to part ways to greener pastures. On wednesday we'll be saying goodbye, and she'll be going to a good home. I've finally decided on a name for her. She's named "Donna" after the song "Donna" by Ritchie Valens. It seems weird to have an emotional attachment to a car, but I just can't help it. She'll always be my first love and I hope to see her again one day. I know it's nothing special, just a plane Jane maverick with an inline 6 from a 68 falcon, but it's the whole experience of having this car that's gonna be missed. I got her as my very first car when i was 15 years old and everyone knows how emotional your teen years can be. She wasn't the fastest machine, but she sure did get me there in style. I got $6,500 for the car without the 302 that I've been building and that's an offer I just couldn't turn down. I went to school with the girl who bought it, so hopefully I'll get to see "Donna" once in a blue moon. All you guys and girls on the board have been a phenomenal help and I rarely ever did anything to the car without coming here first. Thank you all and good luck to you and your Mavericks. No real direction to this post, just a car guy sharing his feelings about saying goodbye not only to his first car and first classic, but his 1974 Ford Maverick LDO. I call this feeling "Hot Rod Heartbreak."
Feel free to post your experiences with saying goodbye to a classic you've owned or your first car. Not sure if this complies with forum rules since its only loosely based around Mavericks/comets.
Hopefully I'll get another one down the road. For now I'm looking at a 66 four door chevelle. 327 with comp cam, double hump heads, b&m supercharger, long tube headers, and a b&m transmission.
I still have my first car, my maverick, so I dont know what you are talking about. Had it for almost 20 years now.
Hate to see a member sell their car but it looks like you got a good price for it - maybe steer the new owner our way and we can keep a watch over Donna for you
For $6500, you'd be nuts to turn it down, no matter how much you liked the car, you must love the money more..
