Been looking on e-bay and there are lots of GT 40P heads for sale on there fairly reasonable, are these heads any better than the 79 casting I have now? also will early model accessory brackets fit these?

Gt 40P 's are arguably the best production small block Ford head made. Sort of the Ford version of the GM Vortec. Flow pretty good in the mid range. Really peter out right around .500 lift. Brackets and holes should be same as 79. If you are not planning on using a smog air pump you have to plug the air ports in the ends of the heads. I think it is a 9/16 course thread. Just use a short bolt with a little high temp silicone.

If you plan on using them with headers be aware that they have a different spark plug angle and won't fit without different headers. Unless you search this board for the question and find out what others are using.

    Ditto on the header thing!

My uncle picked up a pair of Ps for free. They looked like the plugs were just angled differently and regular headers would work fine with shorty plugs.
    NOPE!
Not only are the plugs at a different angle, but they are moved horizontally along the head.
We mocked them up in his car and put the headers on. There was no access to the plugs and many wires would not even go on due to the pipes.

Now he's going to put them on the roller engine he is building for his T-bucket. The headers come straight out of the heads and don't turn any for at least 12", so these will be good heads in that application.

I'm running "P" heads with my old 302 headers and there were no air ports to plug either.

    86 Mustang heads

What are the differance in the 1986 Mustang fulie head versus the 87 thru 95 fulie heads. I have a set of those that I bought to go on my 86 5.0 and sold the car before I replaced them. Would these be a better replacement head over the 1979 heads I currently have, they have the heart shaped chamber with 178 - 145 valves.

My heads have E6SE stamped on the bottom, are they the same as the 86TE heads? I took these to a well known head builder here and he said these would do great as long as I didn't want to drag race with them, which I don't.....this is a cruiser car. He will port and polish these and cut them for the bigger valves for 135.00. I provide the valves and reassembly, but I think I will keep the 178/145 valves that are in them and run them with just the porting.
