I'm sort of a noob at this labor of love thing. Oh, I've had them in the past
they have just been dismal failures. My first maverick, a 76
went to the junkyard because of a dead tranny.
Young and poor. Oh well. My latest is a 69.5.
    I had a 70, 8.8" out of a mustang put in. 4 bolt to 5. They
didn't align the rear end properly and bent the u-bolts.
Was thinking of trying to put the rear end under the springs.
    Any thoughts. Anyone? Please!

I have seen it done. Owner said it rode like a buckboard wagon. I would not recommend doing this.

You need to get rid of the shackles, and you need brand new springs.

Can you post up a picture?
