I drove over to Pensacola Fla. yesterday (Saturday) and made it back home today (Sunday) with my new daily driver. I bought a clean '95 Ranger to take over the Maverick's street and errand duties. Nothing really special until you figure in the 30 mpg that I got on the way home. (This is great, I get around 12 mpg in the Maverick) So I am hoping that it won't be long before I get started working on the Maverick and gathering parts for the new engine. Just thought I'd share with ya'll about the Maverick getting a break for a little while. (It deserves one). Anyway, ya'll take care! Preston
It is much easier to fix them up when you dont have to drive them. Make a list of everything you want to do. Then take your time to get it done. Then it will be the car you want it to be.
Congrats Preston, Like Mavaholic said make a list then work on what you can at a time, Keep us posted on all the plans you have for it.
yuppers Preston, you will be amazed at how your car will turn into the car of your dreams. It really is impossible to build a car that has to be your daily driver. I shouldnt say impossible, cause I have done it, but dang, it gets tuff, specially when you got to get done so you can drive to work or sumthin. Dan
My 93 Ranger with the weak ass 2.3 and a 5 speed never got better than 24mpg! That thing couldn't pull the skin off pudding.....
I had one of those 4cyl Rangers...once. Learned my lesson. Damn thing nearly got me killed. Wouldn't pull itself out into traffic, and if you were on a hill, it had better not be a steep one. Had to dump the clutch to get it off a light...terrible truck. Got rid of it after just 4 months..took a bath on it, but I like my 4.0 a bunch better.
hey guys. Yeah, the 4 cylinder is definitely a drawback. Won't tow the Maverick, but then again, it won't do much more than get me around town. As for gas mileage, that 30 was on the Interstate doing 70-75 from Pensacola to SW-La. In town, I figure it'll get about 25 or so. Later guys. Preston
Well, I've been kinda quiet lately, so I thought I'd update ya'll. The Maverick is not street-legal at the present time. I pulled the registration for the time being. Trying to decide what to get on my personal plates. With the stuff I have planned for the car, I'm thinking MAVROKT (Mav Rocket) or something similar. (suggestions are welcome) Anyway, been driving the Ranger the past coupla weeks and getting 27 mpg with it city/highway combo. This is good, but.........I MISS MY V-8!!!!! Anyway, I got the car in my shop, new roof on the shop, tools all moved in, only thing missing is me. I have finals this week, so it'll be a little while yet before I do anything. Anyway, just thought I'd catch up. Ya'll take care!!! Preston
Good luck. Keep us posted. I just pulled my car in the garage for the winter and will start the little things soon. With the ranger, I had a '92 Mustange with the 2.3 and got around 28 mpg. It was refered as the tird by everyone and myself. Now it has a 5.0 in it.
I've got a tow vehicle that is lousy for going after parts. It's a 1995 F-250 with EFI 7.5L (460). It gets 12 MPG empty, loaded, or loaded and towing. It does not make any difference. It ain't a daily driver. But, it will pull anything I want to hook up to it.
Uh...let me think....NO!!! I love the irony of using my Ch**y Suburban for fetching parts. It gets over 18 MPG on the highway.
