I just received the dual exhaust trans crossmember from autokrafters today. well it doesn't fit. the holes on passenger side are off about 3/4" from side to side and 1/2" top to bottom and this is the side that has the oblong holes. you would think that the up and down wouldnt be an issue but it will put trans closer to floor. the drivers side is way off. I know the trans is in the correct spot because removed the original from car to install the new one. the fit and finish are not what would I would expect for a $99 part. I will post a picture of the piece in my gallery. any help on getting this to work? I dont want to modify it and then not be able to return it.

You likely won't be able to return it anyway. They have a 10 day return policy. I bought a z-bar from them, it arrived I opened it up it had the right part number on the tag and I didn't know the difference at the time. When I went to put it on the car 2 weeks later (rain blah) I realized immediately it was not a match for the stock z-bar on my car. Did some research, realized they sent me what looked like a dead-ringer match for a 66 mustang z-bar with the maverick/comet z-bar parts number tagged to it. And they fed me the 10 day return policy line.

Now I badmouth them until I feel like I've gotten 160 dollars worth of badmouthing in.

I just got it today so I will probably will be returning it tomorrow or Monday. It seems to be less modification to the stock 6 cyl than to make this one work. And I'll save $100. Thanks for the heads up on the 10 day return. I can't believe I waited for this thing. They should find a new co to fab these parts.

Are you trying to put this on the car in your sig, a 1970 model? If so, that is the reason it doesn't fit. 1970's never had a V8, so they didn't use the double hump crossmember. You will either have to drill the crossmember or your tunnel to make it work. Somebody else ran into this a few years back, maybe it was Jamie Miles, I can't remember now.

True that you have to modify a double hump cross member to fit a 70, but the one you have pics of in your gallery isnt even close to the stock one for a v8 car.

I am not impressed with the quality of it let alone that it is the wrong one, hope things work out with returning it.

    ?

thats how it came out of the box too. all the grider marks, scratches, sharp edges and burs around all the drill holes. my 70 mav has both upper and lower holes on the drivers side for both . this crossmember isnt even close.

The 70 trans tunnel is narrower than later years. Unless Autocrafters advertised it as specifically for a 70 it aint gonna fit regardless of how many holes are in your support.

They have it listed 70-77 maverick. I couldn't go to bed without messing with it. I got it to fit with some cutting and drilling of the crossmember. Not pretty but it's in.

You see it this same way when carpet is advertised - 70 to 77 is easily noted but not accurate - I wound up building a cross member for my 70 :)

Is there a thread somewhere about the often questionable quality/fitment of autokrafter parts? I've had similar issues with multiple items and I feel we should voice our concerns. If enough comments are posted perhaps they will listen. In my case, wrong reveal molding clips, wrong window felts, and the gas filler tube "trunk gasket" disintegrated after a year! This would need to be done in a respectful and constructive manner. Maybe as a sticky? Not sure if that is appropriate.

    Maybe try posting here?

I am sure they would like to hear from their paying customers. I know I have personally worked with them to get parts made and/or corrected.

I am sure what they don't need is a free-for-all on a message board. That accomplishes nothing.

    As far as:

    1. Reveal Clip Moldings. What thy sell is the ONLY clip available. Yes, they will work and it takes some wrestling to get it done. If they didn't sell the ones they have, then they would offer nothing.

    2. Window Felts. Not sure which ones you are describing, but I have used them all that they offer and I have had NO problems.

    3. Gas Filler tube rubber "trunk gasket". I know all manufacturers have had troubles with rubber. I know the repop fuel lines I bought desintegrated after one year. It seems they don't make rubber like they used to. This is an issue I am sure they would like to know about. Email me DIRECTLY (see below) a picture and I will personally bring it up with the owner when I see him at Carlisle in a few weeks.

It ain't the rubber...it's what they putting in the gasoline that is disintegrating the rubber. I had to change my fuel hose at the tank yesterday

Alcohol!!! I only use alcohol free or av 100LL in my car! I'd be screwed if I had to use it for a DD! Alcohol free gas is $4.36 and av gas is $4.86. This is a bit more than regular premium with alcohol, but I don't have to keep buying carb kits, fuel pumps, and fuel lines! :)
