I would stick to SMC repair.I have chopped up fiberglass matte and mixed it together with the 3M SMC repair and backed it with the woven drywall tape(3M has the same tape only it costs alot more).Chopped fiberglass will not take any stress and it won't last.I have been doing this for 33 years, but do what you want.I like doing things once, and my trial and error days were over a long tme ago.

    Look at post #14 ....

By 1974, entire Corvette bodies were being made of SMC. They started converting in 1970.

Scoops and Grabber spoiler centers both appear to be molded inside and out. There are raised parts numbers on the inner surfaces.

Take the scoop to a boat repair shop. They live and breath fiberglass repair and shaping.

I wonder what it would hurt to neatly wrap the whole thing in sheet fiberglass just useing the panel for a form more or less, then finishing it like you would fiberglass?
