Mav's I've owned, and/or still own.. 70 Grabber: Black engine compartment 72 2 door: body colored engine compartment 73 2 door: body colored engine compartment 73 2 door: body colored engine compartment 73 2 door: body colored engine compartment These are all Kansas City cars.....
Both my 71 Grabber and 72 LDO Maverick are Kansas City cars and both have engine compartments painted the same color as the car. The seller says that the car looks like it was repainted so I bet that the black paint is probably primer or was previously painted black. Bubble spots on the hood (rust?) and other rust spots under a new paint job would make me too suspicious. Also, seller says that when it rains, water leaks on the floor and he says it's from the window leaking but it probably is from the cowl that is rusted along with the torque boxes. I wouldn't buy it unless I could carefully inspect it up close. I think I lucked out with my Grabber that I bought on ebay. It had the original paint so it was less risky IMO. -Erick
My original white exterior paint 71 Grabber is from KC, has buckets/floor shifter/auto/PS/AC and the engine compartment is body color.
Huh - chalk this up to "my mind must be playing tricks on me" catagory. But my 72 from Kansas City is actually from Dearborn. I thought for sure my VIN started 2K but it is 2F. Must have been thinking of another car I've owned. At any rate, mines a Dearborn 72 with the black engine compartment. Maybe this whole thing is just one of those weird Ford things? That maybe they would run low on body paints and try to save by painting the hidden areas black instead. Maybe one shift painted them one way and another shift did it different?
Well I'm shocked - a little over 1 hour left on this Grabber and it is still at the opening bid of $1800. If I had a little more room in the garage, I'd have to go and get another Greyhound ticket to Ohio and bring that baby home. Seriously, I am surprised it has had little interest.
Well thankyou Mr Mavaholic. Yes indeed, I am the weiner. I think I am gonna be sleeping in the garage for awhile. The mrs is not real happy with me. Car # 14. One thing I cant believe is that nobody else bid on it. I thought noway would that car go for under $2K. Some paint work, detail under the hood, carpet and exhuast work, she'll be ready for Roundup in the cars for sale corral, or maybe even Carlilse too. Dan
Way to go DAN .. :bananaman :bananaman :bananaman I can't believe what a deal you got. And you know in a couple weeks there will be a standard Mav with a grabber hood in worse condition that sells for twice that amount on ebay. You hit the right car at the right time. Should make a great project. Congrats again, Eric
