Guys, what is the max size wheels that I can put on my 71 Comet GT? I am about to put it in the paint shop, so will be ready to put some nice wheels on it soon. Probably Cragar SS. I know I can put 15" wheels on it as that is what is on it now. Will 16" wheels be too big, especially for the front?
you can put 22s on if you want. its about tire height and width. you can put about a 26 inch front tire on that is as wide as about 7"s if you go wider you need to be careful with clearances.
Check out the Vintage Wheel gallery. Generally speaking, if they fit a Mustang they will fit a Maverick. http://www.vintagewheelworks.com/show_dir.php?dir=2
Grabber, What size tires are you running? Did you have to roll the fender? Those look like AR rims. Micah
Bridgestone potenza's 235-45-17 front, 255-40-17 rear with no rolling. Wheels are made by American Racing
Thanks. I was looking at those same rims. I like the retro look and the 17" size. Good to know what tires fit. Looks nice. How about a shot taken from the rear of the car?
Wheel and tire guys: I am looking closely at the American Racing Torq Thrust Chrome D wheels. I want to stay with somewhat of a factory look with a 15" wheel. For the front, I can get an 8" wide wheel with 4 1/2" backspacing or a 7" wide wheel with a 3 1/2" backspacing. Will the 8" wheel rub when I turn? What size tires will be best to run with each wheel? Does it matter what size wheels I run on the back, 8" or 7"? Thanks.
I have 15x7 on the back of mine with 225/60/15s and it looks like it needs more tire or more wheel to me. I'll probably replace these with 235s or 245s soon. These tires are like new but old and need to be replaced. I'm not going to buy more wheels, but it certainly looks like 15x8 would fit fine with the right back spacing.
