Guys, after 26 years in the Air Force, I am all American and drive only American made cars! And let me add: they have American names because I know someone out there will tell me that their car with a foreign name is made in the US. Well, you know where the profits go! Anyway, as I restore my all-American 71 Comet GT & look to buy wheels soon, I need to know what wheels are made in the USA and what are not. I want my bucks to go to Americans. I believe that American Eagle wheels are made here. I am not sure about Cragar & even American Racing. I am looking at putting chrome Torq Thrust type wheels on, so what other wheel producers (who produce this type of wheel) are American made?
original...will be the only U.S.A. made parts (maybe). any if not all "new" replacement parts will be from...over there somewhere. Note: Effie bought herself a new camera while we were on vacation. on the bottom of it was a sticker...Nikon Corp. of Japan...made in China...
You are correct. http://americaneaglewheel.com/page.cfm?t=manufacturing&id=13 Looks like Cragar steel wheels are made in the USA. http://www.cragarwheel.com/page3-1/About I think these are either cast or assembled in China. Centerline wheels are manufactured in the USA. http://centerlinewheels.com/faq.php#manufactured
Most of the new types of Cragars are made in China. Torq Thrusts are now made in China. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=812896&highlight=china+torq+thrust I think most repop vintage Mustang parts are made in China or Taiwan. I even heard Timken bearings are now made in China. Maybe we should push for some China Maverick small bumpers.
WOW!! MY twin!! You get my vote for president, rather than, well, you know who. Anyway, I am the same way when it comes to cars, the koreans are threatening to nuke us and we support their economy by buying their cars????? Whats up with that? If I see a MIA/POW plate on an american car, I will make an effort to talk to that person and thank them for their service, BUT if that plate is on a Jap car, all bets are off. Sorry to rant and rave, but its just nice to meet another AMERICAN!!! I salute you, sir!!
I try to buy US, but it's very hard with a lot of things. I recently heard first hand why some much stuff is made overseas. I have a friend who was wanting to reprpoduce a run of a cast aluminum accessory for flat head Ford engines. The cheapest price he got here was $100 each to have the parts cast. He did one just for a trial. Then he got in touch with a place in China via the internet and they quoted him .50 each with a minimum order of 1000 units. He did that and I must say they were perfect. The one he had done here was total crap in comparison.
Your all American Comet GT had a lot of Canadian parts when it was built, but even those are hard to find anymore. Around here was a huge parts producing area, but its all lost to china...
Weld racing wheels are also. It's a shame that the cars we love get dropped by the side . Because many of us here have the passion an pride that believe just like you do. The problem is we the people need to have people that are willing to bring this enterprise of reproducing parts to life here in this country so our passion doesn't fall by the waste side. One gentleman here has done that by making quarter window seals. I just want to thank him for that. Mercgt73 has them.
For you who told me "If you are trying to live totally MADE in USA . You are going to be cold, nude, and hungry"... I can find what I need without being cold or hungry, or I don't need it! For the one who made the comment about parts being made in Canada... that is ok as I consider you a friend and ally. I have done military exercises at Cold Lake as well as served along beside Canadian forces in the Middle East. They served very well (and they took showers, unlike the French). I will buy American all I can, even if it costs more. My flag is worth it! How about you?????
Wonder where the metal came from on St Thomas built cars...Wisconsin? Ohio? Pennsylvania? I'm sure it didn't come from China
