bearing clearances

    im putting together my 302 engine, right now im checking my crank bearing clearances. ive heard you want something around .002 and .003:huh:
    i just checked my plastigauge and the 1245 caps are almost exactly .002 maybe a wee bit over (i think should be fine) but my number 3 cap is about .0016 maybe .0017. its that ok? or is it too tight?

    Ideal is .002 for every journal except #1, it is usually a little tighter to promote higher oil pressure, .015.

    High end is .0024 everywhere except #1 that is .002.

    I've run as high as .003 on mains but don't like to do it.

    If you are concerned about #3 being a bit tight, take it back and get a polish done on it to take a hair more off. For a street build I would probably just run it, it's still in spec.

    thanks, i already decided to leave them, it will be mostly a street car. i will take to to the strip once in a while but im not seeking perfection
