are those brackets original from the cobra they came off of or are they fabricated to fit our cars? and what wheel size are you using? they have plenty of clearance on the inner part of the wheel?
Im interested to know if they came right off a late model cobra and bolted directly onto our cars. what year cobra did they come off of?

very nice looking set up cant wait to hear your answers

no..not stock brackets at all..these were designed by mustangsteve.com for early ford drum brake spindles..u have to buy the brackets from him..

u remove the hub from the drum..once u do that u bolt on his brackets and use the drum brake hub and everything becomes a bolt on affair...i like it better than the aftermarket kits cause not only is it cheaper but u get giant sized front brakes and replacement parts r ez as autozone..

u will need 17" wheels to clear the calipers...ive installed his 2005 gt brake kit on my 66 stang already

awesome info thanks. looks like a piece of cake. you obviously had to go with cobra brake lines and make them fit the original brake lines no? did you have to find some kind of adapter or fitting to enlarge or reduce sizes? or were they the same size?

You need the Cobra flex hoses. I'm using the same brakes, but a different kit.

Yea, the entire thing was extremely simple...My build on my 66 mustang (which I plan on duplicating on the maverick) is as follows:

    FRONT:
-2005 mustang gt disc brakes with mustang steve brackets (I have the cobra brakes for the maverick going on)

-2000 mustang v6 master cylinder...1" bore, good for dual disc brake setups
-Fox mustang brake booster (not sure if mustang steves fox booster kit will work on the maverick, so I'll probably run an OEM maverick power brake booster setup)
    -Adjustable proportioning valve.

    REAR:

I decided to go a different route, and took a 1996 explorer 8.8 rear end with 373 gears, 31 spline, trac lok and explorer brakes and modify it for my mustang...After I welded new perches in the right spot, the rear with disc brakes bolted right in to my 66 mustang leaf springs...I plan on putting an explorer rear in my maverick now too.

    Plumbing:

I used a factory brake line kit for dual master cylinder for my lines front and back. To hook up the calipers up front, I used the soft line that belongs to the newer master cylinder, and connected it to my factory 5/16 line. NOTE: The original factory hard lines are double flared, and the newer stuff I used was a bubble flare. Not sure about the cobra brakes yet, but I think those may be double flare too. To connect the soft line with bubble flare from the calipers soft line to the Original cars hard line double flare, I used a simple $3 adapter I found at autozone help section.

out back, I found that the explorer rear brake line was setup for a double flare, so the entire thing literally just connected to my original body lines.

Under the hood I plumbed the rear port of the master cylinder into a T valve that you can buy any parts store, then the other two ports of the T valve go to the front two wheels..simple...the T valve uses double flare connections, so it all bolts in. I'm not sure if the original maverick setup as far as the original proportioning valve goes, but you should be able to just yank the old prop valve and put a t valve in it's place.

The front port of the master cylinder is for the rear brake lines....I bought a simple adjustable proportioning valve with a dial wheel so that I can adjust how much pressure goes to the rear brake lines. I simply ran the front port of the master cylinder straight into the adjustable proportioning valve, the the original body hard line goes into the other end...

You will have to make two small lines yourself, the ones that go to the adj prop valve, and the one that goes from the master cylinder to the t valve. THis is very simple..I used a socket, or even the jack handle, and bent the line around it for my curves, and it came out very nice. Don't use stainless steel, it's nearly impossible to make a good double flare without cracking and splitting it..Napa has nice newer style 5/16 brake lines that bend real simple, and you can make double flares real ez with it with the $20 brake flaring tool

Very nice! Your setup sounds almost identical to what I want to do with my Mav, with the 13" cobra brakes up front and the explorer 8.8 out back. Looking forward to seeing it all installed!
