Hi, I have a 1973 Comet and when I bought it, it had custom spring brackets in the rear installed, that were raising the car so large wheels could be installed, now I would like to get back to originals and need to fabricate them, so my question is, can I get a photo how should they look like or what is the hole to hole diameter.

I am not asking about the shock, but about the leaf spring

Regular shackles are readily available. No need to "make" them. Plus, on a factory shackle...the bolts are attached to one end of the shackle, thus preventing twisting of the shackle where it mounts.

If I would be from USA, I would buy them, I am located in Poland, Europe, so it is way easier to fabricate them.

Now you will understand why I have larger mounts.

Yes...I understand. After looking at your picture....I stand behind what I say, especially with those "meats" (also know as tires) in the back. With those shackles, the rear of the springs will twist and move. Eventually the rear of the frame rails will be torn out or twisted.

look for mustang shackles. those should be available in poland, too.
spring width on all fords is 2.5".
original shackles measure 3.5" in height, from bolt center to bolt center. later cars use 4".
bolt diameter is 1/2". 65 mustangs have 9/16".

how are the rubber bushings? they are 1" in diameter, mustang ones are bigger, 1 3/8". mustangsunlimited carries them in polyurethane for a special cougar application. i have a spare set...

Tody, and that is what I was looking for! Many thanks for valuble info! As for the bushings, I have a fabricator that works in a plane factory so he can fabricate things like bushings.
