I just got my 76 started again after sitting for two years and the tranny won't untrack in any gear. It starts to move just a bit when I get the revs up high. I'm hope-hope-hoping the fluid is just a bit low, but it's hard to test it on a level surface when it's stuck on my sloped driveway. I don't want to just add fluid willy-nilly. My question is whether I should just swap out the fluid since it's been sitting a while. If so, how much effort does that require? thanks in advance. 76 maverick i6-250ci Bone stock.

I would take it to a place that has a wynns machine that they hook up to it.it changes ALL oil and they put a conditioner they run thru it AND put a new filter on it.it has made a huge difference in my cars and van at times its right at a 100.00 bucks but well worth it. jmo
Sounds like morning sickness...a rebuild is in you future. Will it pull after it warms up for about 5 minutes? Don't try and make it pull by giving it more gas if it doesn't want to pull at low rpm. This will burn the clutches up in a heartbeat
Fixed! Just wanted to follow up to say thanks and that the fluid/filter swap went well. The only thing I had to stop and look up was a spring and plunger held in place by a tab on the filter. Root cause? Almost all of the fluid had leaked out over the two years she sat there. I only got about one quart out of the pan. I didn't get the torque converter drained, but I'm not worried about that now. She shifts pretty well and I was able to get a good read on the fluid level fully warmed up on a level surface. Oh, and funny story - the front wheels were locked up from sitting and I had to rock it back and forth a bit to get them loose. I guess the old saw holds true - if you let them sit, they turn to sh**.
