I ordered a suspension/steering kit for my 1971 Comet with power steering and the idler arm that came with it ( bottom one in photo) doesn't match what was in the car. I think my center link and idler arm are from a later model but I'm not sure. At this point should I get an idler arm to match my center link, or get the proper center link for a 1971? Is the geometry the same for both? The car handled like crap so I don't even know if what was in there ever worked right.

That linkage looks exactly like the '77 setup I'm using on my Comet, has the curved inner tie rods and the idler arm pin in the center link... My '72 linkage has the pin in the idler and straight tie rods...

Is the frame rail attaching mount straight or offset on either of those arms???

If I remember correctly the bottom idler arm will only fit a manual steering car.You need a power steering idler arm.

    They are both straight.

Both my steering setups are P/S and are same as pictured...

Thanks, I have a new one that's offset, may be for manual steering...

Sorry I was looking at it on my phone.I replaced my idler arm and I used the same idler arm as the bottom one on the picture with the pin hole in the bolt.I first accidently ordered the Moog Problem Solver Idler arm and I found out it didn't fit.Moog doesn't list an idler arm for 70-74 however they have this idler arm for 75-77, this is the one that I first ordered and found out it didn't fit on a power steering setup.

This is the one I used.

You have a correct arm for a '72(AFAIK '71 is same)

The '72 has pin in idler...

The '77 has the pin in linkage...

If you can't swap, I'd go for the Moog pictured, it's what I'm going to use...

Called Laurel Mountain Mustang and sent them some pictures. They are going to swap it out for the one in the link above for the price of shipping. They assured me it will fit so I should be good to go...
