It's not the tops fault, it's the weathers fault. My lifelong Canadian car, was way better under the top than my Arkansas car was.... VVR210, you should PM "car-nut" and ask him about the products to use, he is a professional body refinished, and he'll know exactly what you need, and the best way to do it. But I believe filler should be applied over primer, for the best result.
Ok Ill probably buy that one and try to convince my teacher to let me blast the car in the shop..He's just concerned that it will make a mess.
They actually took their time to prep the roof ,it primered and painted white. Im sure the vinyl top was replaced at one point and they probably used filler right over all the dents without clearing the rust completely.I want to do this right the first time so it doesn't come back. I called a paint shop and they said that they have an epoxy primer that can have filler applied over it.They said first epoxy primer, filler, then they said I can use the multi purpose primer that I posted on here except the primer that I have is black so they suggested using the gray primer since Im going to paint the top white. I will contact Car-Nut thank you.
So here's what I did I tried taking the headliner off without removing the windows. I was able to get the rear side off but when I reached the front I ripped it so I had to cut it out. I wasn't able to blast the top either but I cleaned it as best as I could myself. I welded up all my holes and a friend of mine helped me out over the weekend. We got a good coat of bondo and glaze putty on it and blocked it a little bit and then sprayed my epoxy primer. The roof is not perfectly straight yet but its finally primed and protected I will come back to it and finish it later on cause time is flying by. Next I should be starting my passenger floor panel replacement, I got a mustang floor panel for that. I used white epoxy primer
I have a lot of surface rust all along the edges off my roof on the inside. Should I try to sand off as much as I can then maybe use some rust converter or POR 15? Its a tight fit in there so its hard to get to I'm also wondering whether I should keep the factory headliner sound deadner or can I replace it with some peel and seal type of material??One sheet of it was good but the other is tore up. And what is the color of my headliner? And last but not least I'm guessing the seat belt bolts up to here? My car has lap belts and I want to upgrade to a 3 point seat belt, since my headliner is down this is the time to do it. Do you guys have any suggestions for the seat belts?
make a note where the seatbelt bolts go in, find it with your finger and slice a X in it then screw the seatbelt bolt into it. Nothign to do prior to installing of your headliner.
I wouldn't use Peel & Seal on the roof (I like it on the floor though). I'd use something like this: http://www.automotiveinteriors.com/HEAT_SHIELD.htm A little spray-adhesive and your headliner bows will hold it up there just fine.
there was a post on here a few years ago about using seat 3 point seat belts from some van. the extension from the roof to the strap would put the strap in great position. try searching for it.
heres a lot of seat belt info on this thread http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=89127&highlight=seat+belt+van
I have some Rattle Trap deadener http://sounddeadener.com/Rattle Trap/ Should I still use what you mentioned above only for the headliner?
