I recently picked up a really straight 1972 comet, I've been fixing a few lil things along. The dome light wasn't working so I pulled off the cover and discovered the bulb was missing. . . . .no biggy, grabbed a bulb out of one of my parts cars and popped it in and it lit rite up. . . . .but so did the brake lite in the dash . what's the deal :hmmm:???? has anyone else had this happen ? Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? any help would be appreciated. thanks.

yes it does and it stays on, the brakes don't work. haven't been worried because I've got a 5 lug disc front and rear(Versailles) im gonna swap in. but since I installed the dome light bulb, with the key off and removed when you open the door, the dome light comes on . . . . . . and so does the brake light! close the door and they both go out. I don't get the link.

Dome light is switched on the ground side, the brake light probably is too. Could be they are sharing a common ground. Have you tried unplugging the brake sender wire at the prop valve?

The brake light switch is on the pedal, not on the prop valve.

The brake light warning switch is on the prop valve, that is what he is talking about, the light on the dash. You need to read before you jump into something.

Don't assume I didn't read the whole thread. The problem is that I read the first couple posts several days ago. So I forgot. Sheesh!

To Jody, was only trying to help. Good luck finding the problem with your car, it does sound like it could be a ground issue of some sort.
