Need a sound/video clip--dual flows with X-over.

    x2 for magnaflows

    I love my magnaflows...real quiet at mellow at idle and just off idle but still have the rumpity rump at the redlight and then when u floor it they really scream.....im running full length headers into 2.5" pipe with no x/h..dumped in front of the axle...there are quite a few sound clips of fox mustangs with magnaflows and flowmasters with x and h pipes on youtube..i went with magnaflow because it seems like everyone and their mama is running flows where i live

    I have seen many clips of mustangs, but you have to take into account that most of them have catalytic converters, which will also affect the sound and drone.

    THanks a bunch! That is the exact same setup I have so that gives me a good idea on how different the x-pipe makes it sound.

    Found out we have a pipe bender out in the barn, so I may start putting together my own exhaust this weekend.

    Gotta get the car back together and on the road while I have decent weather.

    NO.. don't do it, man! lol

    I can't stress enough how well mandrel bent tubing will make your car run compared to crimp/compression bends. It's obvious that bends reduce flow as it is and squishing them only adds insult to injury. Then adding bend ripples on top of all that flow robbing distortion is just plain wrong.

    As for the x-pipes effect on sound and efficiency? It's pretty well known that it improves both(the sound is a "perspective thing" but decibels do go down slightly) and many pro race teams use them for that very reason.

    Some VERY important things to consider if you decide to use one though.

    The entry angle, the exit angle, the cross-sectional area at the point where the pipes cross can make or break a design. Parallel designs(vs heavily splayed) work best but are near impossible to actually implement under most chassis.

    Most "store bought" designs cause horrible turbulance/flow interuption due to severe angles, sharp edges, and tiny cross sections(part of each pipes flow area is lost to merge them together).

    Sometimes(often), the gains seen are a result of that tiny cross sections improved scavenging effect when installed into too large an exhaust system. IOW, install an x-pipe onto a lightly mod'd 302 powered car with an oversized 3 inch exhaust sustem and it'll improve torque output almost every time through the band-aid scavenging effect it gives to such a low velocity system. Bigger is not always better.

    X-pipes also have a very limited range(well under 3,000 rpm and even as low as 1,000 rpm spreads are normal) in which they tend to improve power and the engine needs to be spec'd and tuned properly for max benefit.

    The closer they are to the collectors, the better the result.

    They will reduce the lopey sound as the pulses(pressure waves) pass through 2 mufflers at a time. The same effect can be had with ganged mufflers(dual cans on each bank), as well.

    X-pipes tend to sound smoother and more refined, IMO.

    I generally cut my pipes and grind out all sharp edges before merge welding them together. You can go even further by doing mirror image style parts(inlets and then outlets) or leaving the legs short and grinding the interiors sharper edges after theyv'e been welded together.

    Sometimes we don't have much room to work with.. but an optimized design can build more power.

    At the very least.. use a balance tube(h-pipe) between both banks. Half the work.. and near'ish the same power output increase/sound reduction. (y)
