i have family in Aloha near Portland, it goes by what the city or county wants to do its not a statewide deal, so check the city you are moving to, and oh yeah don't forget your umbrella!

I live out in Bend Oregon, and out here we dont have any DEQ checks. Registering a vehicle in Oregon is easy to do. Over in the vally is different though. In the Portland area down to Salem you have to go through DEQ checks. If your car is older than a 1975, you dont have to do it. But dont quote me. It is also cheap to get your cars registered, about 35.00 for two years.

Sounds lilke Oregon is pretty antique friendly... 35$ for 2 years sounds good... Hell all you need in Georgia is ten dollars and a bill of sale and your legal!!! Va It's 35 a year and they go over your car with a magnifing glass every year!!!

Yes I have a good reason to "visit the vermont of the west coast" (lot's of big hills and green trees right?) the wife will be getting her Doctorate at Pacific!!! Also Portland can be no worse than all the people still living in the 19th century here in Richmond VA... Ugh i had to drive 90 miles to see a live show last night!!!! Because everytime this town gets anything worth talking about the city council shuts them down!!! Richmond could be one of the kewlest places on the east coast, but it will never happen...

Thanks for all your input so far!

I live in marion county just s. of portland and i dont have to deq my car out here. it depends on the county. I have permanent plates on my '72 Mav. as long as it is 25 year or older, or recognized by a sanction body, or is a street rod. you never have to renew tags. the catch is you are only supposed to drive it to club events, car shows, ect.

If you live in the Medford or Portland areas you will have yearly smog checks on anything less than 30 yrs old. All other areas there are no checks or inspections. Registration is $54 every 2 years on all cars(yes even brand new cars).

My father lives in sw portland and my uncle lives in sherwood, my uncle goes to the woodburn dragstrip everynow and then. Tell him what a beautiful state it is, but also very expensive. My grandfather, who lives in Tigard, has a cabin/house in Black Butte which is very close to Bend which is also very beautiful country. All this is green with mountains. then you go east and there is desert land, This state has it all. If your moving to Portland I hope you like beer, there are over 150 micro breweries in the portland metro area, and some very good beer to say the least.
