took the valve covers off and checked the torque on all of the rockers and they were already set noticed they oiled really good so thats a positive thing. we also put in new plugs, checked the compression and got 140 in all of the cylinders not bad but not great I was hoping for over 150 since the motor was supposed to be rebuilt before setting for 3 years. Im glad all of the cylinders had the around the same compression that shows things are in good condition. also reset the timing to make sure everything is set correctly even re ran the plug wires. then we tried to see if I had junk in my fuel lines like old or bad gas by putting a new hose on the fuel pump and pumping gas out of a can into the carb and no difference so we changed the fuel pump and now it wont start.:banghead:

so were going to start again tomorrow with finding out why the new used fuel pump isnt pumping. were going to try an electric pump and see if the car runs better like that. if not were going to tear the timing cover off and check the timing gears and make sure theyre set correctly if they are Im stumped. Ill be looking at the heads if the timing and fuel are functioning correctly

might be a simple thing...but sometimes it gets overlooked when installing a new fuel pump, make sure its on the right side of the cam.

it would be worth it to bring it to your house and stick your motor in it even if it was only for a day

well we figured out that curb hopper had the fuel lines backwards so we werent getting any fuel.:hmmm::idea:
after switching the fuel lines around and trying to start it like that it still wouldnt start. so I thought okay maybe that old fuel pump went bad from setting around. then we hooked up an electric fuel pump off of curb hoppers car. we still werent getting much fuel and realized that there was a ton of air in the filter and the line so we pumped a good bit of fuel through the line and held the line up as high as we could to get rid of the air put the line back on and what do you know it started.
so in the end we hooked up my mechanical pump and primed it and it was ready to go with a few adjustments to the carb its running pretty good.

as far as parting it out goes I couldnt bring myself to do it to a comet but bring me your mav Ill gladly part it out for my comet :biglaugh:

Well a few weeks ago mine puke out its old worn out motor. It flew right out of the engine bay. Good thing I had something else to put in its place.

Just finished up a nightmare of a custom install yesterday.
