so your putting a smaller diameter wheel in the rear than the front?

the rear wheel being a 15x16.5 is drag race size wheel. the side wall of the tire will be very tall wich will cause poor stability in turns. this wheel size pretty much says pro street not pro touring. now the front wheel size says more pro touring.

regardless your build is going to be really cool.

what style wheels are you considering?

So should I go with a smaller tire in the rear? 17x14 and 16x10 in the front?

traditionally the same diameter wheel is used front and rear. its not uncommon for a bigger diameter wheel to be used on the rear than on the front.

you can see why its important to have the tire size figured out before you start fabricating the chassis.

if you do want the pro street look i would recommend staying with the rear wheel choice and changing the front to a 15" wheel i wouldnt go more that 6"s wide. real drag cars use a 3.5 wide front wheel usually but if you plan on driving on the street mostly its better to run a wider wheel and tire for safty and control reasons.

if you want the pro touring type of build. this means you want to be able to turn fast then you should be looking at at least 17" wheels. the less side wall the tire has the better the handling will be. you can get really wide tires like a 335/35-17 http://tires.tirerack.com/tires/335 35 17 that has a 12.5 inch tread width.
those would look really sweet under a maverick. i think the viper maverick was using a 315 tread width tire.

you can get crazy and get 20" or bigger rear wheels with really wide tires on the rear and put a 18"x 8" wheel with a 245 on the front and create a really dramatic look that way.

what it comes down to is its your car. its yours to build how you want. we are very happy to give guidance through your build, but dont let us build your car the way we want it. build how you want it.

you should find pics of cars that have the look that you want and post them up so we can have a better idea of what you want. then we can help give you the advice that will get you to your goal the right way.

ok there you go. now can you find out what size wheels and tires are used on that?
then you will want to buy the wheels you want and the tires and then stick them under your car where you want them and then you will be able to locate every thing else from that point.

Those are bigger than 15" diameter by several inches!

What size tires are those? I know nothing about pro touring sizes. Most use an inch or 2 bigger on the rear than the front in width and diameter.

Twitchy is giving you the feeling the car will do something you aren't telling it to do. IE: Rear feels good one moment and loose the next without any input from the driver, unsteady, unpredictable.

Hold on to your hat when you price those tires and wheels.

There is a little cheaper way of determining fitment with a specific wheel and tire size.............you can make these or have someone make them for you as long as you the exact size of the wheel/tire combo..........I have done this before on a street rod when building a chassis.

Ever driven a car with radials up front and bias-ply's in the rear? Now that's twitchy! When I first built ny turbo S-10, I had 225R70's up front and Hoosier 325 Quicktime's out back. Went to pass someone on a 2-lane and the rear of the truck started sashaying from side to side...

I've always made templates from cardboard boxes, can't get any cheaper than that! If you're clever enough, you could make it adjustable.
