I JUST realized this. But I bought my maverick a week ago and ive been trying to get it fixed up. its been having loss of power, things smell like theyre burning, etc. I saw a part in the back of the car that I just now realized was a carburator. the car is at the mechanic, but i dont remember seeing a carb on the engine. COULD THIS BE MY PROBLEM?

The car must have a carb/throttle body on it to run.
No telling what the burn smell is; hopefully the mechanic will get u on the road.

I hope so too. Some idiot put the wrong tranny fluid in.
But I do not remember seeing a carb on there. It will hardly push and I basically coast with it.

How do you know it was wrong fluid??? For the most part auto trans fluids look and smell similar... Anyway I doubt a C4 would care what fluid was used, high tech it ain't...

But seriously, I think it's running without a carb. It hardly pushes. It stops. When I push the gas at first it feels like its gonna stop, and it might, but sometimes it goes. It quit on me two times at a light when I stopped.

its nearly impossible for a maverick to run with out a carb unless its fuel injected.
the fact that it does something when you push the gas says it has a carb.
    you do have a carb.
that thing about the trans fluid sounds very suspicious. you obviously dont know very much about cars if you are asking about the carb. i would be very careful with the mechanic and try not to let them take advantage of you.

LOL!!! If it doesn't have a carb, what's the gas pedal and fuel line connected to??

If it's missing, you need to find a new mechanic....

We have an amateur come to the forum to ask for advice, and some want to mock the questions they ask. This is the absolute best way to turn someone off to the forum.
I admit I chuckled to myself when I read the title, but I think we have all been there at some point. None of us were born with the knowledge we have today.

When people come to us for advice, we should feel a little honored that they come to US. If they want ridiculed, they would go to a Mustang forum.

    Ok, off my soapbox now.

X2, or he's a troll. Some people forget that the last new cars rolled off the assembly line with a carb about 25 years ago, long after the last new Mavericks and Comets did. Some members weren't around then.

Now, can an engine run without a carb ? Yea, but you're not going to drive it at the same time. Unless you get some fool to ride on top of the engine and pour gas into the holes in the intake while you attempt to drive it. "HEY BUBBA, WATCH THIS !!!!"
