Hey Fellas, looking to see if anyone knows where the resistor part of the red with a light green tracer wire that feed the positive side of the coil? It seems like its somewhere along the inside the cab section of the circuit..

I am trying to see if my breaking up at high rpm is possible to a lack of voltage to the coil and MSD ready to run dizzy..

The MSD distributor may require full 12v battery voltage to operate correctly. I would call MSD tech support and verify with them

Hence the reason I am looking for where the resistor section of wire would be at to remove it...

i think it comes out of the ignition switch plug at the base of the column and goes to the fuse block

I can check today for exactly where it is, I have a harness out of the car..... But the are usually under dash somewhere on Fords from what I have seen.....

Yup at least so on my '72, may be pink with the red/green connected to it...

As long as the main power leads for the MSD are connected directly to the battery and the resistor circuit is only used to power up the box, it should be fine... Well that is if nothing else is on the circuit, without current draw there won't be any voltage drop through the resistor... Connecting the MSD main power lead to the resistor would be a major no no...

All you should really need to do is measure voltage in the MSD "ON" wire with engine at RPM... OR a quick test would be connect the "ON" wire directly to battery then run it up in RPM... Of course you can't shut it off again till it's disconnected....

I dont have the box.. just the ready to run dizzy, which I guess has its "module" under the the floor plate of the distributor.. I had the car running and found a wire that comes out of the harness side of the ignition switch connector that says do not cut or splice every 3 inches or so... while the car was running I cut it.... well the car kept running...

I did check for power with the key on engine off at the coil and it was at 12V.. but then figured I should test it with the engine running.. but was late for work.. will go again today though...

the overlay straight from the battery would be a great cut to the chase test...

did the overlay while it was at idle..noticed slight sparking and a slight raise in idle speed... get in the car...free revs to 7500 with no issues... woot woot!

    this before the overlay......
