So I finally got both pieces of my aftermarket z bar. The problem I'm having is the lower. When I turn my wheels left the gear box arm hits the z bar. It looks like I could get away with cutting a few inches off of the bottom of the lower and moving the hole that attaches the rod that actuates the clutch up about an inch. Has anyone ran into this problem before? The rod is attached on a block that swivels so I'm not sure if mounting it a little higher would negatively affect the travel of the rod. I will post some pics up today if the weather holds up after work. Thanks
I wouldn't move the hole as it will change the leverage. Granted it is not a lot, but it could affect your pedal pressure to a small degree.
Now that I think about it, the problem could have more to do with the length of the top arm going to the clutch pedal. Could it be that arm is not long enough? I know that I made my own arms for the top an bottom with adjustable heim joints and the adjustment fixed any interference issues I had.
I think if I do anything to the rod I would have to shorten it. The upper z bar almost hits the steering box with the clutch to the floor. I'm not sure if I shorten if it will do anything for me but actually move me in the opposite direction. Even with the clutch pressed in the steering arm still hits. I looked it over and I might be able to get away with just cutting everything off below the hole that its mounted in now. I will try that first and see where that gets me.
do you have PS or MS, on my 74 Comet the pitman arms are different for PS and MS, they where curved in opposite directions....mine original was PS, but I changed over to MS and had to change out the pitmans and center link.
