My radio looks like the original but is actually from a 80's ford AM/FM it has worked great until yesterday. I was browsing stations and went to go back and tuner needle is stuck in right 1/3 of channels. It works fine in that area but I cant get it to any of the lower stations because just stops. Is there a trick to fixing this? I know very little about these radios.
I had a radio, and it was like yours but instead was stuck on the left side of the radio band. There are places in Hemmings that advertise to fix old radios. There is also a guy that sets up at the Carlisle All Ford Nationals that will repair old radios "on the spot". I had my radio with me, but I seem to recall it cost more to get it fixed than what I thought it was worth.
If it has preset buttons then the clutch is probably slipping... In most radios it's a small rubber disc with one side glued to the drive plate, often when older the glue has dried out and lets the disc slip out of position... Others use a metal or plastic disc that is pinched between two others as a clutch, if metal it's a good system but by the '80 it's probably plastic and something is broken... Assuming it has preset buttons, if pushing each end button to swing the pointer back & forth doesn't help, it's gonna need to be opened up for inspection... Units without presets usually have a dial cord that's probably broken...
This is exactly what I was looking for. It does have the preset buttons and they will not get the dial to the other side either.
