    Hi everyone,
I finally got my 70 maverick painted. My car is a survivor, one owner true old lady car (got it from the original owner, a 92 year old woman). My car has 80k on it, and is all original (see exceptions). I added the grabber rear spoiler, mirrors and stripe, but tried to keep it so that the car is basically stock. Now, i am undecided on this, i have an original hood scoop that i pulled from my 74 Comet Gt many years back, i had it painted to match but have not installed it. I think it would look great, but should i do it because the car is so stock, i hate to drill the holes! Also, anyone know where i can get the fabric for my seats? The vinyl is all in great shape, but the fabric on the drivers side is torn. I have installed new upholstery before for my other cars, but they were always kits (72 Chevelle, 70 Duster). I know there are no kits for Maverick, but is there a place to get this fabric, or a place i could send the seat covers to to have redone? All advice is appreciated!

I did not want to cut holes in my mint original paint hood to add a scoop either in my 70 so I got another hood and cut away

As far as the scoop, do whatever makes you happy. I personally think the car looks good as is, it has a very nice clean subtle look and I don't know if adding the scoop would keep with the theme.

Beautiful car! I'd leave the scoop off if drilling the holes causes you pause. It would look great either way. Another option would be to paint on the 70 Grabber hood stripe.

Regarding the seat fabric: SMS Auto Fabrics will have it. They will send you samples and everything. http://www.smsautofabrics.com/

    I would add the scoop.

I would also paint the grill, headlight surrounds, and stone guard black...but that is just me!! :D

I wouldn't do the scoop but the rest of what Craig suggested would be good for me :)

Here's my advise for what it's worth based on my experience. Don't do just the inserts of the seat, do the complete job. I had inserts done and the original vinyl started deteriorating later.

Also I did a Comet scoop on mine and later changed my mind. I thought it looked out of place on a Maverick. I'd just do Grabber hood stripes.

Black out the grill and such like a Grabber. Some Magnums would really set it off.

Also, if you back seat is good, you might could just add frt buckets for about the same price as a re-upholstry job.

There's also some nice complete aftermarket buckets with added bolsters. They're pretty affordable.

Thanks for the ideas, Craig I saw your car in the catalog today! I actually have a pair of bucket seats from a 71 mustang along with a black upholstery kit that I purchased for the Comet that I never used, but I kind of wanted to keep the bench. If I could buy an upholstery kit out of a catalog I would buy it and install it myself, maybe someday. I will check out SMS. I would love some other wheels, but the car is 4 lug, so I think the steelies are it. I was going to get the trim rings, I saw a mint set at a swap meet but honestly I kind of like the green wheels and the trim ring covers all the color. I was also thinking of the Ansen slots as they come in 4 lug, but not sure. I was thinking of blacking out the front and back, I have not decided. I like the hood stripe idea, is there a stencil kit for that available, I did not see any other than 71 72 grabber. For now, I am going to hold off on the scoop. When I parted out the comet GT (I was sad), I saved the scoop in the hopes that someday I would have another car to put it on. I think the car looks great as is, but the Comet looked so good with it, I don't know. If anyone has pics of a maverick with a comet scoop they want to share, please do!

Check w/ Fred Carello (401-739-4462) a forum member who can supply you w/ the correct seat covers "patterns" for that car. He has the original vinyl and does nice work. He made some for several folks on this forum, myself included" which I am vry satisfied. I don't think the Comet scoop wud go well on that car; I cud see painting the center section black,

This, plus add the trim rings to the wheels.

    BTW, very nice looking car!!
