I planned on going with 35, just to do it once right out the gate in case I ever add more power.

I plan on getting little parts over time to build the rear end. Getting ready to buy some tires for the rear so I can get everything else figured out then once I get the rims I can figure out how much it needs to be narrowed but planned on having everything together. I gotta buy here and there. Cant dump 1k on rear gears all at once.

Also, what ever axles I went with I'd build rear gears around that.

But I am curious as to what he will be running.

Hey Levi, just came across your build.

Strange 35 spline ST axles are the same price as 31 spline so go with the 35s; that's easy to figure out. The cost of the third member will increase, but that's the price of going faster. ST axles are rated to 800hp. That is also assuming drag race launches which will NEVER happen on a low profile tire. The best option for the diff is the S-Trac posi; it will take the abuse and perform the best all around.

Regarding front rails to rear rail connections. The front rails should be run parallel all the way back to the front of the 4-link crossmember.

RASelkirk, are you the same Russ Selkirk who's building a Rambler? I haven't seen any pictures in my inbox in a while!

    ~Carl at Chassisworks and TCP.

Carl, I will be using the frame rails from Chassisworks, as well as the IFS.

The car is going to be built to handle 800+ HP, but will only be running about 375 for a few years until I can build the motor.

As far as the chassis, from the line drawing I have done how would you edit it? This design I felt would be strong, and give it a solid design. I have incorporated triangles into the chassis for extra strength. I have everything ready to be placed together in exception for the front rails, which I am hoping to order soon (next week or two). Also, the car will be fully caged by 8 to 10 points.

The car will be pro touring build, and the tires/wheel combo I will be running will be able to be changed to do drag if I ever wanted too.

Also, I believe you and I have been working together as far as me purchasing stuff.

In the meantime, I have been blocking out the car and 1/3 of it has been set in primer and ready to be painted.

Yep, you've been dealing with me. I saw your thread and thought I'd chime in.

All the extra bracing is a lot of extra work and weight for no real gain. A 12-point roll cage (which is what you need to put in a car of this build style) is going to do far more to strengthen your overall package than all the little braces in the middle.

Just because some companies/shops you may see in the car magazines build their chassis a certain way doesn't mean that it is the only way, the best way, or even the correct way to do it. I'll try to help out a little in here, but I may have to resort to the phone so I don't spend all day typing.

    Some things to consider:
Where are you trying to route the exhaust?
Where are you going to put the pedals?

I appreciate it! Any help is great!

As far as the exhaust, I planned on running it down the middle next to the drive line, and I would cut 3" round stock reliefs in the rear safety loop.

Pedals, Not sure -- I haven't gotten to there yet, I am open to any ideas or suggestions.

Everytime I see you post I think there will be progress. You keep getting my hopes up. When is the cutting and hacking going to start?

Thanks for joining in! I think it's great to see a vendor get directly involved in our Maverick/Comet community! :Handshake

This build is awesome! The best part is all the learning going on and the way one can see ideas evolve and become reality. the best part is, we get to see the reasoning behind it all, not just the results! :yup:

Agreed! LOL We want to see more sawzall pictures!!!:dancing:

Done! :) My progress is quite a bit slower than Levi's though. Sucks to get old. The conundrum here is this. My comfort zone for the garage is between 60° and 90°, this winter has only yielded about 2 weeks worth of workable weather so far. Yet when it gets warmer, bare metal just hates my dripping sweat even though I don't mind working in the heat...

Someone broke into my garage last night while I was asleep and stole all my tools, air tools, Welder, and bunch of misc car parts. Sigh....

    One step forward, five back.

Lucky I didn't wake up because I would have shot them...

I also go stuck in a huge police chase and officer related shooting last night in the valley. Scary stuff, unfortunately I watched the suspect get killed 40 feet from my car. Rough 24 hours.

I don't understand what I did in my previous life to deserve so much bad karma...

Car won't be worked on for awhile :'(
